Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce
Marketing Committee
2/2010 Report

Member Communications

The marketing committee at its February meeting reviewed an informal offer from the Shelton-Mason County Journal to print and distribute the Chamber newsletter as an insert to the paper.  While the advantage would be broader distribution of the paper, marketing committee members agreed that we might experiment with a printed insert on a quarterly basis, and go to an all-e-newsletter in the interim. The printed piece would be distributed to the entire Journal subscriber list while the e-newsletter would be limited to Chamber members, providing a conduit for “members only” news. More news to come on this development, but marketing committee members are particularly interested to hear from newsletter advertisers as to whether advertising in an insert is a cost-effective option for them.

Kat Kamin has created a blog for members and a few individuals are presently experimenting with this, hoping to provide an interactive opportunity for members to get involved in policy and other discussions.  More to come here, as well.

Visitor, Relocation Packets

Last year, your Chamber office mailed ?? packets to individuals hoping to visit the area and another ??? packets of information for people moving to Mason County.  Chamber Director Terri Jeffreys wants to beef up both offerings.  Next month, the Chamber marketing committee will look at the relocation packets and decide what more is needed to provide a comprehensive overview of the community.

Brochure Distribution

Members may use the Chamber office as a place to distribute their brochures, business cards or other promotional materials.  Some members use this service; many do not, but visitors to the office do take advantage of materials that are available.  The marketing committee discussed additional ways to distribute brochures or business cards, recommending a periodic sack lunch get-together for Chamber networking, business card and idea exchange.
